Birmingham & District Theatre Guild organise the annual BFAME One Act Play Festival. It is held at the Dovehouse Theatre, Olton, Solihull during the last week of February. During the Festival Week three one-act plays take place each night in front of a paying audience and a qualified adjudicator. At the end of the evening the adjudicator gives a public constructive adjudication on the performances seen helping performers and audience alike to improve and understand the art of theatre. He will also speak to each performer privately at the end of the evening. Trophies are awarded to the best in each class at the end of the week.
During the Festival Week we also cater for individual youth work where young people under the age of 19 compete in the following classes: poetry, singing, individual drama or drama duologue. Everyone who take part in the Individual Youth Festival receives a written crit from the adjudicator and a certificate of participation for inclusion in portfolios.
In addition to the Festival Week we run a peripatetic full length festival for full length drama and musicals. These are performances that are viewed at your normal theatre by two members of the BDTG trophies are awarded in each category on the final night of the BFAME Festival Week.
